 Tammy Stephens

Tammy Stephens, Founder and CEO of The Stephens Group LLC, an educational technology integration consulting firm

As the leader of The Stephens Group, Tammy Stephens sets the vision and oversees the implementation of the company’s strategic plan. She oversees eighteen consultants who work in her organization. The mission of The Stephens Group is to help school districts make the most of their technology investment, by applying current educational research and best practices for the use of technology. Currently, The Stephens Group offers services in Data Driven Decision Instruction, One-to-one Computing, Professional Development and Information Technology Planning.

Tammy began her teaching career in 1991 as a long-term substitute as a library media specialist for Westlawn Elementary School in Wisconsin. From 1992-2000 she team taught variations of multi-aged elementary students in grades 1-3. While teaching, she conducted forty-eight professional development workshops on technology integration for the district and served on district science and technology committees. She also served as the building technology support specialist. She completed her Masters Degree in Computer Education from Cardinal Stritch University in 1999.

In the summer of 1993, Tammy participated in a teacher exchange program through the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and team-taught a multi-aged, bi-lingual K-6 classroom at Ascot Vale Primary School in Melbourne, Australia. This experience helped shape her philosophy of education around a constructivist approach which she used in her own teaching experiences in Wisconsin.

Currently, Tammy is a doctoral student in Educational Technology & Leadership at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. As part of her coursework she did an internship with the Consortium of School Networking (CoSN). She was awarded the Certificate of Distinction by her peers on the Emerging Technology Committee for her dedication and systemic use of technology to improve K-12 learning. She was also inducted into the CoSN Volunteer Hall of Fame by the CEO, Keith Kueger, at the CoSN National Conference in March 2008. Tammy’s dissertation topic is one-to-one computing. Her paper, An Ecological Perspective on One-to-One Computing, won the Program Director’s Award for Best Conference Paper at the 2008 Society of Educators & Scholars (SES) Conference in Malibu, California. She is currently working on her dissertation on the Evolution of Communication Patterns in One-to-One Computing Classrooms in Milwaukee Public Schools.
